Irrigation Products

Ornamental Outlook shines the spotlight on new irrigation products.

Low Pressure

The Asta Drip from Antelco Corp. is designed to take on a variety of nursery and landscape applications. The easy-to-install pressure compensating emitter on a spike features a turbulent flow path with self-flushing action, an insect baffle to minimize blockages, an inlet barb with a built-in filter, and an outlet suited for attaching 0.16-inch microtubing. The Asta Drip is sealed to maintain pre-set discharge rates and is available in three color-coded flow rates (½, 1, and 2 gallons per hour).

In Control

The I-Core controller from Hunter Industries makes the demand of commercial and high-end residential irrigation seem easy. The simple-to-program controller is expandable from six to 42 stations, has a backlit graphic display, and comes with multilingual capability. The I-Core’s Diagnostic Dashboard provides a comprehensive status of the entire system in real time. The controller features a flow-monitoring system that minimizes the potential for water waste. Equipped to be remote-control ready, the I-Core is compatible with all other Hunter brand sensors.

Meter Reader

Netafim USA’s Hydrometer is a master valve, water meter, and flow sensor rolled into one unit. Made specifically for landscape and turf application, the double-chambered Hydrometer provides a quick-acting opening and closing function. The unit operates efficiently on varied flow rates and is fully compatible with most central-control systems. The hermetically sealed Hydrometer has excellent leak detection, features stainless-steel registers enclosed in glass, and boasts a ±2% accuracy across all flow ranges, which helps eliminate false alarms.

Smart Choice

The ESP-SMT Smart Control System from Rain Bird comprises two key components — a controller chassis with an integrated “smart” panel and a weather monitoring system featuring a temperature sensor with solar shield and a tipping rain bucket for instant rainfall measurement. An easy-to-follow set-up process prompts users for vital information needed to create an optimal irrigation schedule. The ESP-SMT uses statistics, such as evapotranspiration rate, temperature, and rainfall data to decide whether to continue with its programmed schedule, make adjustments to apply less water, or suspend irrigation.

Making Tracks

Aqua-Traxx PBX is Toro Micro-Irrigation’s solution for better drip-tape performance. The premium drip tape features a continuously molded PBX emitter instead of the individual, injection-molded emitters. The design aids in delivering water in a more uniform manner and makes it more clog-resistant. Aqua-Traxx PBX is sold by the foot so growers can choose emitter spacings from 4 inches to 24 inches, depending on the desired wetting pattern. A choice of eight emitter flow rates are available in the Aqua-Traxx family of products ranging from .07 gallons per hour (gph) to .34 gph.

High Wire Act

Underhill’s 2Wire System offers a practical alternative for nurseries or greenhouses with more than 300 feet of mainlines or at least a quarter-acre of landscaping. The ability to expand the system at any time can be easily accomplished by adding more valves and decoders. Decoder modules, which can be mounted inside an existing controller or anywhere along the two-wire path, can be placed up to 3,500 feet from the controller and cover up to 272 acres. In addition to the decoder module, the system includes universal senders and field decoders that control one or two valves per station.
